As the message became public, Quraysh answered it with ridicule, violence, family pressure and offers of wealth and authority. Believers such as Mus‘ab ibn Umayr and Zinnirah sacrificed comfort and safety, while the Prophet ﷺ continued reciting the Qur’an with patience. Every attempt to silence the call revealed the strength of words rooted in revelation.
Quraysh proposed compromise, demanded signs and intensified its pressure, but the worship of Allah alone was never placed under negotiation. New strength entered the Muslim community, while vulnerable believers crossed the sea to seek protection in Abyssinia. Before the Negus, Ja‘far’s words secured a refuge that the envoys of Makkah could not destroy.
After the deaths of Khadijah and Abu Talib, the Prophet ﷺ faced grief, reduced protection and rejection at Ta’if. Though wounded and driven away, he answered cruelty with prayer and continued carrying the message to every willing heart. Mercy appeared through unexpected listeners and prepared the way for the extraordinary night ahead.
In a single night, the Prophet ﷺ travelled from Makkah to Jerusalem and led the earlier prophets in prayer. He then ascended through the heavens, met prophets of earlier generations and reached the utmost boundary. The five daily prayers returned with him as a lasting gift and bond between the believers and Allah.
While Makkah continued to reject the message, faith quietly took root among visitors from Yathrib. The pledges at al-Aqabah and Mus‘ab ibn Umayr’s patient teaching prepared a divided city to receive Islam and protect its Messenger. Beneath the stars, years of persecution began turning into the promise of a new home.
Permission to migrate emptied Muslim homes in Makkah while Quraysh plotted to kill the Prophet ﷺ. Careful planning, Ali’s courage, Abu Bakr’s companionship and trust in Allah carried the journey through the Cave of Thawr and along the concealed road north. Arrival at Quba transformed escape from persecution into the beginning of a worshipping community.
